Poland updates military mobilization and defense regulations

The Polish Ministry of National Defence has updated regulations regarding military mobilization to adapt to the current security situation in Europe. These changes aim to increase the state's mobilization potential in the event of a serious crisis or war.

One significant update involves a courier system designed to deliver mobilization notices to reserve soldiers rapidly, potentially within hours, using municipal employees, police, or postal workers. This mechanism is strictly reserved for scenarios involving an official declaration of mobilization or martial law and is not an active peacetime procedure.

Additionally, new regulations may affect Polish citizens living permanently abroad. Under the updated rules, individuals residing in countries such as Germany, Norway, or the United Kingdom could be called to serve under certain circumstances, modifying previous exemptions for those living outside Poland for extended periods.

Separately, a standard military qualification process is currently underway for 2026, involving over 230,000 people. Officials emphasize that this is a routine administrative procedure and does not constitute an automatic call to service or a precursor to war.
