Poland upgrades deposit return system with contact‑less kiosks

Poland’s beverage‑deposit scheme is being modernised through a partnership between ACTION S.A. and Fiserv Polska. The new system eliminates paper coupons, allowing consumers to receive refunds instantly via contact‑less payment methods such as NFC cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay, with funds transferred to bank accounts in seconds.

The accompanying EcoAction recycyl machines compress PET bottles on‑site, reducing waste volume by up to 93 % and lowering collection costs. Designed for residential blocks, city streets and tourist areas, the units operate 24 hours a day. Operators PolKa (Polska Kaucja) and Kaucja.pl plan deployments in Warsaw, Zamość and other cities, aiming for 500 machines nationwide by the end of 2026. They also target beaches, event venues and drive‑through sites, offering digital refund options on cards, loyalty apps or RFID bands.

The rollout promises greater convenience for shoppers, tourists and event‑goers, while supporting environmental goals through on‑site waste compaction and reduced logistics.
