Poland revamps Starachowice reservoir and probes Piła lake decline

In Starachowice, the artificial Piachy Reservoir is undergoing a 7.7 million‑zł modernization funded mainly by EU grants. The project, started in early 2026, will transform the swimming area into a year‑round recreation centre with expanded beaches, new walking and cycling paths, a pier, observation deck, camping sites and facilities for people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, in Piła, authorities are installing a network of 11 piezometers around Lake Płotki to monitor groundwater levels and investigate the lake’s persistent water‑level drop. The wells, reaching depths of up to 50 m, will support a year‑long study aimed at identifying water sources and losses, informing measures to restore the lake’s water balance.
