Poland urges European ‘war mode’ for arms production amid NATO shifts
Poland is urging European nations to adopt a ‘war mode’ regarding the production of weapons and ammunition to counter Russia's increasing military capabilities. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz stated in Warsaw that Russia is already operating under a war production regime, noting that intelligence reports suggest Russia's production of artillery, mortars, tanks, and rockets increased significantly in 2025 compared to 2021.
Simultaneously, analysts are observing a potential strategic realignment within NATO. A recent meeting in Poland, led by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby and including Germany, Finland, Sweden, and the Netherlands, suggests a shift in focus. Experts suggest the United States may be seeking to distance itself from certain European military costs, potentially using Poland as a strategic ‘hub’ in Eastern Europe to facilitate de-escalation in the Ukrainian conflict.
