Poland urges proper disposal of glass jars and food leftovers

Workers at Polish waste‑sorting plants warn that dirty or full glass jars are often placed in green recycling bins, contaminating glass streams and halting conveyor belts. They advise that empty jars may be recycled in green containers, but full jars belong in mixed‑waste bins, with the lid sent to the yellow metal‑and‑plastic bin and any food residue to the brown compost bin. The incorrect disposal of such items repeatedly delays recycling operations.

A separate survey shows most Poles also mis‑sort food leftovers after meals. Correct practice is to put organic waste in bio‑bins, plastics and metal caps in yellow bins, and any non‑recyclable waste in mixed‑waste containers. Better public awareness is intended to improve recycling efficiency and reduce processing delays.
