Poland warns of Russian provocations on NATO’s eastern flank

Poland’s foreign intelligence service chief Colonel Pawel Sota said the risk is rising that Russia could carry out provocations along NATO’s eastern frontier. He cited the situation in Ukraine and a perceived weakening of Russia’s war effort as factors that may embolden Moscow to test alliance reactions with low‑cost incursions, likening a possible limited Baltic attack to the 2014 “little green men” operation in Crimea. Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski echoed the warning, stating that Poland will inform President Vladimir Putin of its knowledge of any Russian plans and will defend every centimetre of NATO territory. Russian officials have repeatedly denied any intention to attack NATO members, while intelligence services of several NATO countries have voiced concern over potential escalation.
