Poland's military modernization continues as the total number of Abrams tanks in the Polish Armed Forces reaches approximately 299 units. This follows the recent arrival of 36 M1A2 SEPv3 tanks and seven technical support vehicles in late June.

As part of a larger 250-unit contract for M1A2 SEPv3 tanks initiated in 2022, 183 vehicles have been delivered to date, with all units expected to arrive by the end of 2025. Additionally, a separate contract for 116 M1A1 FEP tanks was fulfilled within an 18-month period.

The influx of American hardware coincides with Poland's broader transition toward modern armored capabilities, including the acquisition of South Korean K2 Black Panther tanks. This shift involves replacing older Soviet-era T-72 models. However, the modernization brings logistical considerations regarding fuel consumption; for instance, the M1A1FEP Abrams can consume up to 1,090 liters of fuel per 100 km in off-road conditions, compared to approximately 828 liters for the Leopard 2A5 and 480 liters for the PT-91.
