Poland's Active Parent program supports 680,000 children

Poland's 'Aktywny Rodzic' (Active Parent) program, colloquially known as 'babciowe', has supported 680,000 children to date, with over 11 billion PLN spent on benefits. The program aims to help parents of children up to three years old balance childcare with professional work.

The initiative offers three distinct support paths: 'Aktywni rodzice w pracy' (Active parents at work), providing 1,500 PLN monthly for children aged 12 to 35 months; 'Aktywnie w żłobku' (Active in nursery), offering up to 1,500 PLN to cover nursery or childcare costs; and 'Aktywnie w domu' (Active at home), providing 500 PLN.

While the financial aid is significant, regional data from Opolszczyzna shows that increasing the nursery enrollment rate from 44 to 55 percent is vital. Experts and officials emphasize that social policy effectiveness depends not only on subsidies but also on the expansion of social infrastructure, such as clinics, schools, and nurseries, to ensure parents have actual places to leave their children.
