Poland's Catholic Church Marks 70th Anniversary of Jasna Góra Nation's Vows

The Catholic Church in Poland is commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Jasna Góra Nation's Vows, first taken on 26 August 1956 by about one million faithful. The vows, written by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński while imprisoned in Komańcza, contain nine promises covering faith, family, the protection of life, and social justice.

Metropolitan Archbishop Adam Szal of Przemyśl has invited clergy, religious and laypeople to participate in a series of liturgical celebrations scheduled for 27‑31 August 2026 at the parish of St Peter and St John in Krośnie, the Bernardine monastery in Leżajsk, and the Przemyśl Archcathedral. Bishop Tadeusz Wojda, chairman of the Polish Episcopal Conference, emphasized that the vows remain relevant to today’s social challenges and called for renewed commitment to their principles.

The anniversary is presented as a call for spiritual renewal and patriotic responsibility, linking the historic promises to contemporary Polish society.
