Poland's Digital Terrestrial TV Declines as Cable Subscriptions Rise

Data from Nielsen show that only‑digital terrestrial TV (DTT) households in Poland have fallen to about 3.35 million, a drop of roughly 300,000 from the previous year and down from more than 5 million in 2021. At the same time, cable TV households have grown to around 10.3 million, indicating a shift in how Polish viewers access video content. Analysts note that despite the loss of viewers, DTT remains a key distributor of channels, but the anticipated "cord‑cutting" trend seen in the United States has not materialised in Poland.

Poland’s communications regulator UKE says the future of DTT depends on the availability of radio‑frequency spectrum. The service currently uses the UHF band (470‑694 MHz) and VHF for MUX‑8. UKE has reserved these frequencies for DTT until the end of 2033, pending outcomes of the next World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC‑31) and possible refarming of the 600 MHz band for mobile networks. No automatic termination of DTT is foreseen, but further frequency allocations will be reviewed after the international conference.
