Poland's e‑commerce sees strong domestic growth but mounting debt

A survey shows 51% of Polish online shoppers avoid foreign e‑stores, with 33% pointing to a lack of preferred payment methods, 25% to data‑security concerns and 20% to extra fees. Autopay CEO Wojciech Murawski says Poland has one of Europe’s most efficient online‑payment ecosystems, and the e‑commerce market is projected to grow 9% annually from 2025‑2029, placing Poland eighth in Europe. The BLIK payment system is expected to be used by 65% of online buyers by 2026.

Despite a market size near 92 billion zł in 2025, e‑commerce firms face rising financial strain. Overdue debt reached about 462 million zł by May 2026, representing 14.4% of total retail arrears and affecting 5,602 companies listed in BIG InfoMonitor’s debtor register. High consumer expectations for express delivery and free returns increase costs, contributing to liquidity problems.
