Polish retail growth, private‑label & e‑commerce
Entities: Poland · ASM Group · EU Customs Data Hub · Ceneo · Allegro
Overview
Early July 2026 saw solid overall growth in Poland’s retail sector, with sales up 5 % year‑on‑year and strong private‑label penetration at around 40 % of grocery value. Private‑label spending hit 67 bn zł in 2025, while food‑processing volume grew 5.4 % and retailers such as Auchan Polska expanded their networks and cut emissions.
E‑commerce continued to outpace the broader market. By the end of July, online sales were 17.7 % higher than a year earlier, well above the 5 % rise in total retail sales and the 3 % CPI rate. Roughly three‑quarters of Polish internet users now shop online regularly, attracted by price‑comparison tools, parcel‑locker logistics and marketplace models that generate frequent discounts, coupons, cashback and transparent delivery fees. Analysts estimate that this digitalisation could trim inflation by up to 0.46 percentage points annually, delivering tangible savings for households.
The e‑commerce surge is reshaping logistics. A Knight Frank report highlighted rising demand for modern warehouse space as Poland’s strategic location, large consumer base and cost advantages make it a hub for Europe’s logistics transformation. Nearshoring and heightened security spending further fuel this trend. In parallel, EU officials are preparing a Customs Data Hub—scheduled for launch in July 2028 and mandatory by 2033—to handle the jump from about 100 million to 550 million parcels per month since early 2022, streamlining customs checks and combating illicit trade.
Auchan Poland reported 2025 sales of 10.8 bn zł and a net profit of 99.6 mn zł, with operating profit of 224 mn zł. The chain runs 264 stores and sources almost 90 % of its shelf‑stock from Polish producers, reaching 100 % in fresh‑food categories. Its own‑brand line “Pewni Dobrego” and the Gold Shopping Basket award for lowest prices underscore a focus on value and domestic supply.
