Poland's food processing growth and retailer emissions cuts

Polish food processing saw real sales volume rise 5.4% year‑on‑year in 2025, more than twice the pace of overall industry growth (2.3%). The sector now represents about 21% of the country’s total industrial output, with nominal sales climbing from roughly 285 billion zł in 2021 to 431 billion zł in 2025. Export levels remain strong and the industry is shifting focus from pure volume expansion to higher‑value, innovative products and greater automation.

Auchan Polska reported a 10% reduction in total greenhouse‑gas emissions over the 2024‑2025 period, dropping from 5.66 Mt to 5.09 Mt CO₂‑e. The retailer also donated over 4,000 tonnes of rescued food to food banks, deepened cooperation with more than 2,800 suppliers, and opened nine new stores, bringing its total to 113. Energy‑related emissions fell 34.5% versus the baseline year, while energy use per square metre declined to 248 kWh/m². Under its 2030 climate strategy, Auchan aims to cut Scope 1 + 2 emissions by 46.2% from 2019 levels and Scope 3 emissions by 25% from 2020.
