Poland's former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro entangled in two separate legal probes

Polish prosecutors are investigating the collection of housing allowances by prosecutors between 2016 and 2018, amounting to roughly 2.33 million złoty. The probe examines whether the payments, granted for delegations to locations outside prosecutors' official residence, violated public interest rules and whether former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro exceeded his authority with a 2016 decree. Officials indicated that the investigation could lead to a demand for the repayment of the funds and possible regression claims against the involved prosecutors.

Separately, the European Public Prosecutor Office (EPPO) has submitted a request to the Sejm to lift the parliamentary immunity of KO MP Wojciech Król, suspecting paid protection in a tram‑infrastructure modernization case in the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Area. Ziobro publicly accused the ruling Civic Platform of obstructing the process, describing the situation as “everything is being blocked” and alleging broad corruption linked to the opposition.

Both matters highlight ongoing legal scrutiny surrounding figures connected to the former justice ministry and underline political tensions in Poland’s current judicial landscape.
