The rise follows the termination of the CPN "Ceny Paliw Niżej" package on 1 July, which had previously reduced VAT and excise duties on fuel. Its end removed those subsidies, leading to higher consumer prices.

Television presenter Krzysztof Skórzyński described the personal impact, paying around 7.45 zł per litre for gasoline and covering thousands of kilometres each month, while farmers reported diesel prices above 8 zł/l, adding roughly 400 zł per day to the operating cost of a combine. Prime Minister Donald Tusk hinted at a possible re‑introduction of price‑cap measures similar to the former CPN scheme for late August.

Wholesale market data on 2 August showed stable prices over the weekend, with Aramco offering the lowest gasoline rates among major suppliers and BP Europa the cheapest diesel, after recent adjustments that cut gasoline prices but saw diesel rise.
