Poland’s Sanitary Inspection Warns of Cyanobacteria While Summer Swimming Spots Open

The State Sanitary Inspection (Sanepid) has alerted residents to a probable cyanobacteria bloom on Lake Gosławskie, describing the green‑tinged surface film and warning that contact with toxin‑contaminated water can cause skin, eye and gastrointestinal irritation, especially for children and pets. The lake and a nearby bathing area on Lake Pątnowski have been deemed unsuitable for swimming until further tests confirm safety.

At the same time, Sanepid reports that water quality at several other locations is acceptable. New seasonal bathing sites are opening across central Poland, including the “TATAR” site on the Tatar Reservoir in Raw and the “ŻURAWIA” spot in Biała Rawka, both cleared after laboratory testing. Artificial‑intelligence analysis highlighted top-rated swimming areas in the Łódź region such as Zalew Sulejowski and the modern “Malinka” complex. In Gniezno, municipal summer pools opened on Saturday with family attractions, while Ciechocinek’s water‑playground and lakeside pools launched on June 26, featuring a 110‑metre “Anakonda” slide.

Sanepid will continue regular monitoring throughout the heatwave, updating the public on water safety via local notices and its website.
