Poland's GUS begins nationwide household budget survey
The Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS) is conducting the Household Budget Survey (BBGD) across the country. Selected households receive a visit from a GUS enumerator, who may ask them to collect all purchase receipts for a full month or use alternative methods such as telephone interviews or self‑filled paper or online budget books. Participation is voluntary and free of charge, and respondents may verify the enumerator’s identity with an official ID badge. After the month, the enumerator collects the compiled receipts and data, which are processed to produce key economic indicators on household income, spending patterns, housing conditions and material wellbeing. The results feed statistics used by the Polish parliament, government agencies, the National Bank of Poland, Eurostat and academic researchers.
