Poland's highway network nears regulatory target

Poland's highway and expressway network is approaching its regulatory target. According to the Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad (GDDKiA), the current motorway network spans approximately 1,950 km, leaving only about 150 km to reach the target of 2,100 km.

Total high-speed road infrastructure currently stands at 5,593.2 km, including 3,643.2 km of expressways. This represents a massive expansion compared to 2004, when Poland had less than 720 km of such roads. The ultimate goal is to reach a total network of 7,980 km.

Key upcoming projects include extending the A2 motorway east of Biała Podlaska toward the Koroszczyn terminal, which is expected to be traversable in about three years. Additionally, the A2 between Łódź and Warsaw will undergo significant expansion to add lanes and implement energy-efficient lighting. Future plans also involve the development of the A50 motorway as part of the Warsaw Agglomeration Bypass and capacity increases on the A1 and A4 motorways to accommodate growing traffic volumes.
