Poland's Dobry Start program pays out over 1.1 billion PLN

The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has distributed over 1.1 billion PLN through the ‘Dobry Start’ program, which provides a one-time 300 PLN payment for school supplies. To date, approximately 2.9 million applications have been received, covering more than 4.3 million students.

Parents and guardians can continue to apply for the benefit until November 30, 2026. The allowance is available for students up to age 20, or up to age 24 for those with a certified disability. It does not apply to students in preschool (zerówka) or university students. Applications must be submitted electronically via platforms such as mZUS, eZUS, or Emp@tia.

Despite the program's scale, there are ongoing discussions regarding the adequacy of the amount. The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy has stated that there are currently no plans to increase the 300 PLN amount or to replace the program with a different benefit, noting that it remains one of several forms of support for Polish families alongside the ‘Rodzina 800+’ program.
