Poland implements healthcare and social security reforms

Poland is implementing several significant changes to its healthcare system and social security services. The National Health Fund (NFZ) is introducing new rules for primary healthcare (POZ) providers, effective October 1, 2026. These changes link funding to quality indicators, such as patient participation in preventive screenings. Medical organizations have expressed concern, warning that clinics may face financial penalties for patient behaviors beyond their control.

In dental care, new NFZ-funded packages for children's professional hygiene, including tooth cleaning and fluoride application, have been introduced. Additionally, the government is working to standardize the financing of antiretroviral therapy for approximately 400 HIV-positive individuals without health insurance, ensuring consistent access to treatment regardless of the medical facility.

Separately, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has updated its eZUS portal and mobile applications. New features allow beneficiaries to track pension and disability applications and view details regarding the combination of multiple benefits. Security updates include a requirement for new 6-to-8-digit PIN codes for mobile users.
