Poland's National Labour Inspectorate to increase targeted inspections
The head of Poland’s National Labour Inspectorate (PIP), Janusz Krasoń, announced that starting January 1, 2027, inspections will become more targeted and systemic. Following a reform that took effect on July 8, 2026, the inspectorate now possesses the authority to convert improper civil law contracts and B2B agreements into standard employment contracts.
Between July 8 and September 18, 1,164 complaints regarding improper civil law contracts were filed across 16 District Labour Inspectorates. During this period, inspectors issued 355 orders to convert contracts into employment, with 287 already implemented. Under the new regulations, if an employer fails to comply with an order to rectify violations, the inspector can request an administrative decision to mandate the contract conversion. Both employers and employees retain the right to appeal such decisions in labour court.
To improve efficiency, the PIP is utilizing new analytical tools and data exchange capabilities with the National Revenue Administration and the Social Insurance Institution to conduct precise risk assessments and identify entities likely to have irregularities.
