Poland’s Nationwide March Honors Legion Roots and Warsaw Uprising Veteran

On 6 August, the 46th edition of the "Marsz Szlakiem I Kompanii Kadrowej" set out from Krakow’s Oleandry, marking the 91st anniversary of Józef Piłsudski’s death and 89 years since the erection of his monument. The march follows the historic 1914 route of the first Cadre Company, passing through Michałowice, Słomnik, Miechowa, Jędrzejowa and Chęcin before reaching Kielce on 12 August. Participants include members of the Związek Strzelecki, scouts, pupils from schools named after Piłsudski, soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces and representatives of cavalry societies, emphasizing inter‑generational remembrance of Poland’s fight for independence.

In Kielce, regional Marshal Renata Janik, together with representatives of the Territorial Defence Forces, the 2105 Shooting Unit of the Shooting Association, the Kieleccy Patrioci association, the historical‑reconstruction group “JODŁA”, and commander Dionizy Krawczyński, laid a wreath and lit a candle at the grave of Wacław Wilk Wilczyński (codename “Mały”), a veteran of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. Janik stressed the duty to preserve the memory of the uprising’s heroes for future generations.
