Poland’s New Centrist Party Unia Centrum Launched

A new political party, Unia Centrum, was officially announced on 12 July 2026 in Warsaw. The party is headed by climate and environment minister Paulina Hennig‑Kloska, with Michał Kobosko and several former members of the Klub Parlamentarny Centrum serving as vice‑chairmen. It emerged from a split in Polska 2050 after the party’s leadership election, with fifteen MPs and three senators forming the core of the new formation.

Unia Centrum positions itself in the centre, combining economic liberalism with environmental responsibility. Its colours – blue for freedom and entrepreneurship, green for clean air and energy security – were presented at the launch. The party pledged to support a strong government coalition, with Hennig‑Kloska stating the party will be a “strong foundation of the ‘coalition of 15 October’.” A program convention is scheduled for September.

Former leader Ryszard Petru announced he will not join Unia Centrum, saying “I did not sign up” and that he plans to launch his own liberal project in the autumn, aiming to attract voters from the Confederation. His remarks highlight a parallel effort to shape the centre‑right space in Polish politics.
