Poland's nuclear power plant project advances in Choczewo

Poland's first nuclear power plant project in Choczewo has reached two significant milestones. A Warsaw administrative court has dismissed a complaint filed by the Bałtyckie-SOS association against the project's environmental decision. The court upheld the findings of the General Directorate for Environmental Protection, confirming that the environmental impact report meets all legal requirements despite concerns raised regarding thermal pollution in the Baltic Sea and public consultation processes.

On the industrial front, Polish companies are positioning themselves to participate in the construction. While many local firms are expected to handle conventional construction tasks—such as Budimex, which secured a 200 million PLN earthworks contract, and Unibep, which won a contract for worker accommodation—six Polish companies are currently undergoing certification to meet American NQA-1 standards. This certification is required to participate in the nuclear-specific components of the project. Successful certification would allow these firms to enter the global supply chains of major contractors like Westinghouse and Bechtel.
