Poland's poultry and fish markets hit by EU trade changes

Polish poultry producers warn that the EU‑Mercosur trade agreement could flood the market with cheaper chicken from Brazil and Argentina, while growing imports from China and Ukraine add further pressure. The deal includes a duty‑free quota of 180,000 t of South American poultry, and the government says new regulations will block products that do not meet EU standards.

At the same time, the European Commission has introduced a sanction package that bans imports of Russian cod and other fish, aiming to curb Russia's seafood trade with the EU. Analysts expect the cod ban to push prices sharply higher in Poland, where the sector already exports about 60 % of its production, mainly to EU markets.
