Poland's Radom and Warsaw advance major water infrastructure projects

The city of Radom and the state water company Wody Polskie signed a letter of intent to build a multifunctional reservoir on the Pacynka River. The planned "Pacyna" reservoir will cover about 100 ha—roughly eight times larger than the Borki retention basin—aiming to improve flood protection, water retention and provide new recreational areas for residents. Construction is expected to begin after preparatory documentation and financing are completed, with operations potentially starting by early 2029.

In Warsaw, the seventh edition of a water‑recycling program coordinated by the City Cleaning Board (ZOM) repurposes water drained from public swimming pools during maintenance. Instead of being discharged to the sewer, the water is pumped into street‑sweeping and tram‑track cleaning vehicles. The initiative has reclaimed nearly 14 million litres of water annually, serving over 1,200 cleaning vehicles and supporting the cleaning of about 1,300 km of streets each week, contributing to resource conservation amid climate‑related water scarcity concerns.
