Poland's regional economic rankings expose debt gaps and wealth disparities
New data from the National Debt Register shows that more than 3 million Polish firms operate in the country, with about 9 % carrying unpaid obligations. Their combined debt amounts to 11.6 billion zł. The most indebted counties are in Silesia, where Sosnowiec leads with almost 15 % of firms in arrears and a debt of 8.06 million zł per 1,000 companies, followed by Dąbrowa Górnicza and Krosno.
The Institute of European Business’s "Polish Economy Diamonds 2025" list ranks Częstochowa 18th among 323 centres that host at least ten firms valued above 10 million zł. The top three cities in the ranking are Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław, with Katowice in seventh place.
The "Wspólnota" 2025 municipal wealth ranking places the city of Dębica at 64th among all Polish county‑level municipalities, reporting an income of 6 694 zł per resident. Rural gminas in the Dębica county rank far lower, with Gmina Dębica 1 210th (5 803 zł), Gmina Czarna 1 348th (5 568 zł) and Gmina Żyraków 1 349th (5 566 zł).
