Poland regional wealth and debt gaps

New data released in late July 2026 highlight stark economic contrasts across Poland. The first report shows that more than three million firms operate nationally, with about 9 % in arrears and a total debt of 11.6 billion zł. Debt is concentrated in Silesian counties, where Sosnowiec leads with almost 15 % of firms in arrears. Rankings of economic centres place Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław at the top, while municipal wealth figures place Dębica at 64th among county‑level units, with many rural gminas far lower.

A day later, a separate release from the Ministry of Finance's G index adds detail on municipal fiscal capacity. It identifies Boguszów‑Gorce as the poorest municipality, with per‑capita tax revenue of roughly 1,009 zł, contrasted with Kleszczów’s 32,000 zł per resident – more than thirty times higher. The ten lowest‑earning towns are spread across several provinces, underscoring persistent regional disparities in local finances. Together, the two reports paint a picture of uneven economic health, with firm indebtedness and municipal revenue gaps reinforcing unequal development across Polish regions.
