Radzanowo water contamination forces boil‑water advisory for nine towns

A contamination event was detected in the public water system serving Radzanowo‑Dębniki, affecting nine villages in the Radzanowo municipality (Chełstowo, Kosina, Łoniew, Radzanowo, Radzanowo‑Dębnik, Radzanowo‑Lasocina, Szczytna, Woźnik and Wólki). Tests found bacteria from the Coli group, prompting the sanitary inspectorate to prohibit consumption of tap water unless it is boiled. Residents were left without water suitable for basic use; the municipal office supplied bottled water and installed a tanker for public filling.

The mayor, Piotr Jakubowski, explained that the issue was not caused by a pipe break but by routine flushing of the treatment plant: “Głównie to było samo płukanie tej stacji, płukanie sieci.” The new advisory, issued on 17 July 2026, requires water to be boiled for at least two minutes and then cooled naturally before drinking, cooking, or bathing infants. The water remains unsuitable for direct use, but the boil‑water measure is expected to remain until further testing confirms safety.
