Poland launches A2 highway expansion with new speed‑limit enforcement

The Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad (GDDKiA) has begun works to expand the A2 motorway between the Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Konotopa interchanges. The 17.2‑km section will be modernised by contractor Strabag at a cost of about 257 million zł. A three‑kilometre stretch will receive a fourth lane, while the remaining sections will be widened to three lanes per direction.

During the construction the speed limit will be reduced to 70 km/h and an odcinkowy (segment) speed‑measurement system will be used to enforce the average speed over each controlled segment. The A2 corridor, which carries 60 000‑100 000 vehicles daily between Łódź and Warsaw, is being upgraded as part of a national programme to reach a total of 2 100 km of motorways, leaving roughly 150 km to be built.

The works are scheduled to continue until 2027, with traffic kept flowing on two lanes in each direction and no full closure of the motorway.
