Polish MP Michał Woś faces Sejm vote on detention request
Poland’s Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek has submitted a formal request to Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty asking for the chamber’s approval to detain and forcibly bring MP Michał Woś to the prosecutor’s office. Woś, who served as state secretary in the Ministry of Justice overseeing the Prison Service and the Internal Prison Service Inspectorate, is suspected of exceeding his powers and neglecting duties under article 231 § 1 of the Criminal Code.
In May 2026 Woś formally renounced his parliamentary immunities, but under Polish law his personal freedom remains protected unless the Sejm expressly consents to his detention. The prosecutor’s office alleges that Woś ignored four summons to appear in the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań (28 May, 30 June, 6 July and 14 July), none of which were attended. Earlier, assets worth millions of zł were seized as part of the investigation but were later released by a Warsaw district court.
The request marks the latest step in a high‑profile case that raises questions about parliamentary privilege and accountability of senior officials.
