Poland's Wielkopolska Region Advances S11 Expressway Expansion

Polish authorities have issued an immediate‑execution decision to add a second carriageway to the Kępno bypass, a 3.7‑kilometre segment of the S11 expressway between the Kępno‑Krążkowy junction and national road 11 near Baranów. The decision was signed by the province’s vice‑voivode, Karolina Fabiś‑Szulc, allowing the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways to begin works without awaiting the completion of all administrative procedures. The upgrade aims to boost traffic capacity, improve safety and divert heavy‑vehicle flow away from built‑up areas of Kępno.

The project is part of a broader programme of more than 400 kilometres of road construction and preparation in Wielkopolska, encompassing 24 major tasks such as the S11 main corridor, the S10 expressway, DK25 upgrades and multiple bypasses around towns including Krotoszyn, Kalisz and Piła. First benefits for drivers are expected from 2028, with most new routes opening between 2029 and 2031, enhancing regional connectivity and supporting local businesses and residents.
