Poland's Zondacrypto scandal sparks government criticism and presidential veto controversy

Member of the Polish parliament Zbigniew Bogucki accused the Donald Tusk government of turning Poland into a "cryptopanstvo," saying the state has taken no concrete action despite a regional prosecutor’s investigation into the Zondacrypto fraud that allegedly harmed customers by at least 350 million zł. He noted that no arrests have been made and that ministries responsible for justice, security and finance have not been held accountable.

Foreign minister Radosław Sikorski posted on X that President Karol Nawrocki again vetoed a law aimed at combating Zondacrypto and refused to cooperate on the extradition of suspect Zbigniew Z., calling the moves intentional. Sikorski also linked the dispute to ongoing prosecution of former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who is sought on a Polish arrest warrant and currently in the United States.

Both politicians framed the episode as evidence of political infighting and a failure of state institutions to address the cryptocurrency fraud case.
