Poland‑Ukraine diplomatic tension sparks protest outside Ukrainian embassy in Warsaw

During a ceremony commemorating the Volhynian massacre, Piotr Łukasiewicz, Poland’s chargé d’affaires in Ukraine, said he could not ignore Ukrainian victims of Polish actions. Former ambassador Marek Magierowski criticised the remarks as “incompetence and lack of diplomatic sensitivity.” The comments generated backlash online and in the media.

A separate “Good Neighbourhood” picket was organised in front of the Ukrainian embassy in Warsaw by a coalition of Poles, Ukrainians and Belarusians. The demonstrators displayed flags and signs calling for an end to hatred and for mutual respect. Organizer Dzmitry Hałko highlighted recent xenophobic incidents and announced plans for a nationwide Friendship March to promote solidarity.

Both events reflect heightened sensitivities in Polish‑Ukrainian relations and a public push for dialogue and remembrance.
