Polestar expands lineup with new SUV and potential platform upgrades

Polestar is expanding its vehicle lineup with the introduction of the Polestar 4 SUV, which will be available for order starting September 2. Building on the design of the Polestar 4 coupe, the SUV variant aims to provide increased practicality and cargo capacity while maintaining high performance and a sustainable approach.

The Polestar 4 SUV utilizes a 400-volt architecture, offering a range of up to 630 km (WLTP) for Single Motor versions and power outputs reaching up to 544 hp for Dual Motor versions. CEO Michael Lohscheller noted that the new model addresses customer demand for a blend of distinctive design and versatility.

Separately, reports suggest a significant technical overhaul is expected for the next generation of the Polestar 2. Rumors indicate a shift from its current Volvo/Geely-based architecture to a dedicated electric vehicle platform featuring 800-volt technology. This transition could potentially allow for DC charging speeds of at least 300 kW, bringing its technical capabilities closer to those of the Polestar 3.
