Volvo updates XC60 and XC90 with increased electric range

Volvo Cars has unveiled significant updates to its flagship plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV models, the XC60 and XC90, focusing on vastly improved electric driving range and advanced technology.

Both models feature a new, larger battery pack of approximately 41.2 kWh integrated into the vehicle floor. This upgrade allows the XC60 to achieve an electric-only range of up to 200 km (WLTP), while the XC90 reaches approximately 160 km. This represents more than a twofold increase compared to previous generations. The new powertrain configurations include a combination of turbocharged gasoline engines and more powerful electric motors, with the XC90 T8 AWD capable of producing up to 461 hp.

Design and interior updates include a refreshed front fascia, redesigned bumpers, and updated LED Matrix headlights featuring the signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ look. The interior has been modernized with new dashboard layouts, improved materials like Nappa leather, and an 11.2-inch central touchscreen. A key technological addition is the integration of Google Gemini AI, which provides a more natural voice assistant experience for managing navigation and messages. Production for these updated models is expected to begin in late 2026, with deliveries starting in early 2027.
