Polestar plans 2027 redesign of Polestar 2 to rival BMW i3

Polestar is preparing a complete generational overhaul of the Polestar 2, scheduled for 2027, to address declining sales and technical limitations of the current model. The upcoming version aims to compete directly with the BMW i3 in terms of driving dynamics and sportiness.

Key improvements include a transition to a new dedicated electric platform, which is expected to provide better space utilization, a longer wheelbase, and increased rear legroom. The design will shift away from a crossover aesthetic toward a lower, longer sports sedan profile, potentially increasing the vehicle's length by approximately 10 centimeters.

Technologically, the new model is expected to feature an 800-volt battery system capable of fast-charging speeds exceeding 300 kW, with a projected range of over 500 kilometers. Polestar intends to integrate driving technology and software expertise derived from the development of the high-performance Polestar 5, including active dampers and refined steering calibration.
