Police academies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia modernize training

Police training programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia are undergoing modernization to meet contemporary security and social challenges.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs has updated the curriculum at its Police Academy. A new subject, ‘Domestic Violence, Juvenile Delinquency, and Gender-Based Violence’, has been introduced for basic training cadets. This initiative aims to equip officers with the skills to recognize various forms of violence and handle victims with professional, gender-sensitive care to prevent secondary traumatization. The move aligns with the Strategy for the Prevention and Combatting of Domestic Violence 2024–2027 and the Istanbul Convention.

In Croatia, 670 new police officers have completed their training and taken their oaths at the Police Academy in Zagreb. This 21st generation of officers was trained under a new professional curriculum and modular teaching format. The training included practical experience at border crossings and various police administrations, reflecting a shift toward modernized educational methods within the service.
