Police arrest eight suspects in La Rinconada gold robbery investigation

Peruvian National Police have arrested eight individuals following an armed robbery at a mining plant in La Rinconada, Ananea. During simultaneous operations in Juliaca, Azángaro, and La Rinconada, authorities recovered more than eight kilograms of gold, though the exact total amount stolen is still being determined.

Investigators are looking into a hypothesis that the armed assault may have been simulated or orchestrated from within the Corporación Minera Ananea S. A. (CMASA) plant. This suspicion arose after police detected contradictions in statements provided by workers and a perceived lack of resistance during the attack. The investigation has extended to the plant administrator and two security guards.

Among those detained are Brayahn Anthony Luque Quispe, identified as a preliminary leader, and several others including Edgar Quispe Gómez, Gervasio Luque Vilcapasa, Cristian Nina Luque, and Fernando Fermín Quispe. Police are currently searching for a ninth suspect linked to the case.
