Police arrest man for suspected murder of football teammate

A murder investigation has led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man suspected of killing his 30-year-old teammate from the TuS 1912 Rockenberg football club. The incident follows a team trip to Dresden in June 2025.

After returning from the excursion, the victim's health deteriorated rapidly, leading to his death in a clinic despite emergency medical efforts. While the cause of death was initially unclear, toxicological examinations and an autopsy conducted by the Gießen public prosecutor's office revealed that the man had been poisoned by a lethal substance.

Investigators focused on the relationship between the victim and the suspect, noting reports of prior disputes between the two. The 35-year-old suspect is currently in custody on suspicion of murder, with revenge cited as a potential motive.
