Police arrest suspect in attempted femicide case in Guarantã do Norte, Brazil
A 49‑year‑old man was taken into preventive detention by the Civil Police of Guarantã do Norte, Mato Grosso, after authorities said he administered sedative medication to his hospitalized wife in an effort to impede her recovery and potentially cause her death. The arrest occurred on 3 July following a court order issued by the local single‑judge court for attempted femicide.
Investigators acted on a tip that the victim’s condition had abruptly worsened while under her husband’s exclusive care. Police observed the suspect removing and reconnecting the intravenous line, and forensic analysis later detected a sedative substance in the victim’s biological samples. Protective measures were granted to the woman, and the investigation continues.
Deputy Mauro Apoitia emphasized the importance of public and professional reports in identifying and responding to such domestic‑violence incidents.
