Police conduct sobriety checks on Polish waterways
Polish police are conducting sobriety checks on waterways during the holiday season, reminding recreational users that operating watercraft under the influence carries legal consequences.
For non-mechanical equipment such as kayaks, individuals found consuming alcohol may face fines ranging from 20 to 500 PLN. Additionally, police or rescuers may prohibit the individual from continuing their trip or tow the equipment if no sober person is available to take control.
Consequences are significantly more severe for mechanical watercraft, such as motorboats and jet skis. Operating these vessels with an alcohol concentration exceeding 0.5 per mille is classified as a crime. Such offenses can lead to up to two years of imprisonment and a long-term ban on operating vehicles.
