Police deployed in West Bengal after assault on Christian families

Police have deployed personnel in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal following reports that three Christian families were assaulted and threatened. The families, who have lived in the Chandrakona area for 30 years and converted to Christianity approximately 18 months ago, filed complaints alleging that a group of individuals attacked them on October 18 and 19.

According to police reports, the attackers allegedly attempted to force the families to renounce their faith and participate in religious rituals against their wishes. The complaints state that a woman lost consciousness during the assault and a young girl was also targeted. The group reportedly warned the families not to contact law enforcement.

A case has been registered against named individuals, though their identities are being withheld during the ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently probing whether the incident was motivated by religious intolerance or local disputes, such as family feuds. Police have stated the situation is under control.
