Germany BKA reports rise in organized crime and violence
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has reported a rise in organized crime and violence across Germany. According to the 2025 federal situation report, there were 683 investigations into organized crime groups, involving nearly 8,000 suspects—the highest number in five years. Approximately 69 percent of these investigations had a transnational connection, with drug-related crime accounting for roughly 37 percent of cases.
Violence within organized crime sectors is increasing. The report noted 20 completed killings and 100 cases of completed bodily harm in the previous year, compared to 13 killings and 77 cases of bodily harm in the year prior. Criminal groups are increasingly using digital channels, social media, and encrypted messengers to offer and mediate services such as logistics, weapons, and money laundering.
A notable trend is the recruitment of minors, including 13-year-olds, via social media to carry out violent acts. This ‘Crime-as-a-Service’ model allows organizers to remain anonymous while hiring perpetrators for specific tasks. The BKA also highlighted increased brutality, citing a series of explosions and shootings in the Cologne area linked to drug trafficking.
