Peruvian police arrested 21‑year‑old J. L. R. B., known as “El Tunche,” after stopping his trimotor on the Catacaos‑Sechura road. He was found carrying a bag with three dynamite cartridges, along with his 57‑year‑old father, V. R. V., also identified as “Chan.” Both were taken to the Catacaos police station and then transferred to a specialized unit for investigation of alleged extortion crimes.
Authorities said “El Tunche” belongs to the criminal group “La Hermandad de Piura,” which is linked to aggravated extortion, illegal construction fees, and robberies in the Lower Piura region. The seized explosives are believed to have been intended for intimidation in recent extortion attempts against local entrepreneurs, including a rice‑mill manager in Catacaos.
