Police detain men in separate suspected domestic murder cases in India

Two separate incidents of suspected domestic violence and suspicious deaths involving women have been reported in India.

In Kothamangalam, Kerala, police have taken a man named Kuriakose into custody following the alleged stabbing death of his wife, Kunjamma. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at their home. Kuriakose, who had been recovering from surgery, reportedly called his son abroad to inform him of the event, leading the son to alert neighbors and police. Investigators suspect a family dispute may have caused the killing.

In West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, police have detained Prosenjit Basu following the mysterious death of his wife, Riya Debnath. Debnath’s family alleges that Basu had been physically abusive since their marriage three months ago, particularly after they discovered he had been married twice previously. While the cause of death remains unclear, the body has been sent for autopsy to determine if the death was a suicide or murder.
