Police enforce electric scooter registration in Colombian city and Villena, Spain
The Local Police Unit in a Colombian city will conduct a targeted enforcement campaign from 22 to 28 June, checking that all Personal Mobility Vehicles (VMP) are registered in the official registry. Inspectors will verify registration, demand proof of mandatory civil‑liability insurance and issue administrative fines to unregistered or non‑compliant scooters.
In Villena, Spain, the local police completed 72 checks on electric scooters during a recent safety campaign, filing 35 complaints and immobilising 17 vehicles. Almost half of the inspected scooters (48.6%) violated regulations such as riding on sidewalks, using mobile phones or headphones while riding, carrying passengers, and lacking the required insurance. The force will continue inspections and informational actions to improve compliance with the 2025 law that mandates registration, insurance and safety equipment.
