Modena Police evict squatters from two buildings on Via Agnini
On Monday, 3 August, the Polizia locale di Modena carried out a coordinated operation on Via Agnini to clear two abandoned properties – the former municipal nursery at No. 23 and the adjacent Acer building at No. 13. After Acer staff reported a forced window, officers inspected the site, found a man living on makeshift mattresses and arrested him for illegal occupation. Simultaneously, two additional occupants were discovered in the former nursery; they resisted, threatened officers and attempted self‑harm before being taken into custody. All three individuals were charged with building invasion, resistance to public officials and threats, and released pending further legal action. The police, together with municipal technicians and Acer personnel, secured the premises, repaired broken access points and announced plans for stronger closure systems to prevent future unauthorized entries. The operation is part of Modena’s ongoing “Safe City” programme aimed at reducing urban decay and illegal squatting.
