Greece: Police arrest suspects in smuggling, fraud, and arson cases

Greek authorities have conducted several operations targeting human smuggling, fraud, and arson.

In Thessaloniki, police arrested three individuals involved in two separate human smuggling incidents. One group of migrants had entered via the Bulgarian border, while another entered through the Turkish border. The suspects face charges related to criminal organization and illegal transport.

In Eordaea, a 36-year-old man was arrested for his role as a collector in a telephone fraud ring. He was caught with 16,000 euros hidden in his vehicle, money stolen from an 86-year-old woman who was deceived by callers posing as relatives. Two accomplices remain at large.

In Pieria, police solved two cases of telephone fraud where criminals used the ‘accountant’ method to trick women into handing over 12,000 euros in jewelry and cash.

Additionally, Frontex and the Hellenic Coast Guard rescued 147 migrants in southern Crete following three separate boat sightings. In Thessaloniki, a 59-year-old man is facing prosecution for allegedly setting six fires in Sindos to relieve stress. In Thesprotia and Ioannina, two individuals were arrested for theft.
