Poland implements new road safety and vehicle regulations

Poland is facing a series of significant developments regarding road safety and traffic regulations. New European Union rules regarding end-of-life vehicles are taking effect, introducing stricter technical assessment criteria for used car sales and setting environmental targets for plastic and metal recycling in vehicle production.

Domestically, legislative changes are being proposed to address traffic violations. The Ministry of Infrastructure is working on a project to introduce administrative fees for vehicle owners who fail to identify the driver responsible for a recorded offense, with fines potentially reaching 7,500 PLN. Additionally, the Ministry of Justice is preparing stricter regulations for car rental companies, requiring digital audits to prevent individuals with driving bans from accessing rental vehicles.

Law enforcement reports highlight ongoing challenges, including the difficulty of collecting fines from non-EU drivers due to a lack of international cooperation agreements. Recent police activity has also documented numerous incidents of speeding, driving under the influence, and fatal accidents involving pedestrians and wildlife.
